Q & A with Habitat Hero Curt Wilson
1. How long have you lived in Memphis? I have lived in Memphis since 1972.
2. How long have you volunteered with Habitat? I have volunteered with Habitat since about 1984.
3. How did you get involved with Habitat? I got involved with Habitat through Balmoral Presbyterian Church. Bob Kaiser, a past construction committee member and President of the Habitat Board, was the member of my church who recruited me. At that time Habitat had only about two paid employees, and we worked one Saturday per month.
4. What kind of activities have you participated in during your time as a volunteer? Most of my work with Habitat has been as a regular volunteer. I joined the Construction Committee when Bob Kaiser was the President of the Board.
5. Why do you volunteer your time with Habitat? I volunteer with Habitat because it addresses a basic, human need for shelter. I enjoy the work and the camaraderie. I am encouraged working with a diverse group of volunteers, and I like getting to know the homeowners and seeing their joy as they assist with the building of their homes.
6. Do you have a favorite Habitat moment you would like to share? On the 27th of this month, Peggy and I will celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Thankfully, she enjoys Habitat work and will be working with me during the Fall build.
