Steve Medlin, December 2008 Habitat Hero
Steve was raised in Memphis, but spent some time in California and the Carolinas before settling back down in the Bluff City. He first got involved with Habitat in the winter/spring of 2005 during the planning of Habitat’s annual car show. Steve had a great interest in cars, having worked in the racing business in California before moving back to Memphis. He got connected with Memphis Cars Italia through his old friend and MCI member, Trey Lowery.
Steve was instrumental in the planning of that event, but became even more interested in doing other work with Habitat. Over the course of the next several months, his talent and great enthusiasm were identified as solid attributes for a Habitat Board of Directors member. He was recruited to serve in that way and graciously accepted.
In his time on the Board, Steve has continued to support the car show as a committee member and sponsor and is now very involved with our annual Tool Box Bash. He served on the committee and as a sponsor for the 2008 event, and he solicited thousands of dollars worth of items and sponsorships to help the event net almost $24,000 – the most in its seven-year history. He is serving as the Tool Box Bash Committee Chair for the 2009 event.
Steve also worked as a member of the ReStore committee and has taken an active role in various development and fundraising activities. Being closely connected to the real estate business, Steve also has helped lead the charge to move Memphis Habitat’s offices.
Steve considers his work with Habitat an opportunity to do something productive while meeting new people. He says it is a mental and physical outlet with a huge bonus to help the community. He loves that Habitat changes a homeowner's world.
