Home Construction
Got skills? It doesn’t matter! For more than 28 years, Memphis Habitat has “employed” largely unskilled volunteers in its efforts to eliminate substandard housing. There’s no feeling like showing up one morning to an empty slab and leaving that afternoon with an actual house (roof and all) sitting on that very same site.
Generally, Memphis Habitat builds a round of homes in both the fall (starting mid-September) and the spring (starting mid-March). Both Saturday and weekday volunteer opportunities for individuals are available. For more information, scroll down and click on one of the project links under Building Projects. To sign up, please continue to read the following information about individual and group participation.
Building Projects
Individual Volunteers
All Volunteers: Prior to stepping onto a Habitat build site, please complete the online safety course by clicking here. You only have to take this course once to become a volunteer. Check out the side bar to learn how to take the short safety class.
New Volunteers: After you take the online safety course, you can register as a new volunteer on our online scheduling program called VolunteerUP. Please click on the button below to sign up and see what projects are currently available.
Registered Volunteers: Please click on the button below, login and sign up under any current project.
Group Volunteers
A volunteer group for Memphis Habitat is considered no less than two and no more than 10 individuals. A group could be from a business, church, other organization or friends getting together on a Saturday morning or afternoon. If you’re interested in getting a group involved, please contact Erica Gorman, volunteer and events coordinator, at egorman@memphishabitat.com or at 901.761.4771 ext. 217.
*Please note that volunteer space availability is based on our sponsors and when they build. Build sponsors have first pick of the building dates and shifts and typically fill the volunteer spaces first. If sponsors choose to not fill their volunteer space, volunteers and groups will then have the opportunity to sign up. VolunteerUP will reflect volunteer space availability.
If you’re interested in partnering with Memphis Habitat as a build sponsor, please contact Jessica Neal Hord, sponsorship and community relations director, at jneal@memphishabitat.com or at 901.761.4771 ext. 215.

Volunteer Survey
If you have participated in a recent building project, we hope you will take a few minutes to fill out our volunteer survey and let us know how we're doing.
All comments and survey responses are for Memphis Habitat’s internal use in enhancing the build experience for all sponsors and volunteers. Comments may be used as testimonials/quotes on the Memphis Habitat website or printed materials at a later time. If you would prefer Memphis Habitat not to use your comments on future materials, please make note of that when you complete the survey.
