"A lot of college-track kids go through that pre-college period where they must, must, MUST have community service hours. That selfish little reason, needing a few more signatures to keep me in National Honor Society, led to one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life (so far, anyway). I picked Habitat for Humanity because it was the kind of charity that didn't just give handouts. We – and I feel like I can say "we" and mean Habitat volunteers and myself without being pretentious – help people build something that lasts. And in turn, those people will help more and more people build their homes. But though we are all giving, none of us are doing everything for someone else; this is no FEMA trailer and it's not welfare or a soup kitchen. To me, Habitat is about teamwork and taking pride in your efforts, as much as it is about eliminating substandard housing and aiding our fellow Memphians. I went into Habitat looking for a quick pad to the résumé for college. Now I'm going into college looking for my new local Habitat chapter."
– Rachel Schoumacher, 2008 White Station High School graduate

“Everyone who has participated has given great feedback and felt wholly rewarded. I look forward to being a part of Habitat for a long time.”
– Jared Roe, Cargill, Inc.

“This joining together of workers within a company to do something outside enhances the sense of teamwork and makes for better relationships while at work.” – Doug Warner, Pfizer, Inc.

“Year after year, since 1990, our members have had their lives enriched through this partnership. It’s through Habitat that we’ve witnessed firsthand the impact of our actions, in service to God.”
– Gary McCracken, St. Luke Lutheran Church
