Position Purpose
We are looking for a talented storyteller to join our Memphis Habitat team. Working closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications, Graphic Designer, Digital Marketing Manager, and other departmental teams, the Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing the strategic communications plan for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis and the Memphis ReStore.
Essential Functions of Position
- Communications Strategy, Planning & Project Management
- Develop and execute annual strategic marketing and communications plans to support affiliate and ReStore’s financial and outreach goals.
- Evaluate marketing efforts, build reports, and offer recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborate with Digital Marketing Manager to ensure social media editorial calendar aligns with other agency storytelling efforts.
- Engage with outside vendors when necessary.
- Coordinate paid marketing strategy and calendar – including print, broadcast, direct mail, outdoor, and procurement – across affiliate teams.
- Collaborate with Digital Marketing Manager on digital strategy to ensure all channels/messages are aligned.
- Storytelling
- Serves as the primary copywriter for Memphis Habitat and the ReStore, developing media releases, marketing collateral, scripts, speeches, presentations, and other written materials.
- Supports writing/editing needs for Development team’s fundraising program as needed.
- Manage the creation of Memphis Habitat’s newsletter from concept to completion, drafting content and collaborating with Graphic Designer.
- Serve as primary story gatherer and storyteller, liaising with colleagues to identify and develop client, volunteer, and donor stories to support agency initiatives.
- Manage annual award nomination calendar, seeking out nomination information, and writing nominations.
- Media Relations
- Foster and manage media relationships with the media and pitch stories when appropriate.
- Serve as news media liaison alongside Director of Marketing & Communications.
- Assists Director of Marketing & Communications with talking point development and issues management.
- Events
- Develops and executes marketing plans to promote agency and ReStore events in partnership with other teams.
- Provides logistical and day-of support as needed.
- Other Support
- Work closely with fundraising team on direct mail strategy.
- Collaborate with MarCom Director, Graphic Designer, and Digital Marketing Manager to ensure brand guidelines are utilized across the organization.
- Provide support to Digital Marketing Manager as appropriate.
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field required, 5 years preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, or related field required.
- Superior writing skills required. Familiarity with Associated Press style preferred. Writing samples will be requested.
- Media relations experience preferred.
- Experience with website content management (CMS) systems, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, email marketing platforms, and/or Salesforce a plus.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This job operates primarily in an office environment but may spend time in a retail environment (our ReStore) and on a build site. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move items that weigh up to 50 pounds with help. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. A standard work week is Monday through Friday 9am-5pm. Saturday work will be seasonal to coincide with our housebuilding projects. Evening work may be required as job duties demand.
