If you were named the 2015 MX Performance Group HOME
TEAM HUDDLE grand prize winner, where would you go?
Our 2014 winners traveled to Seattle to see the Super Bowl Champion Seahawks take on the Green Bay
Packers in the Seahawks’ home opener. Who knew these were the two teams that
would meet again in this year’s NFC Championship, sending Seattle to another Super Bowl?! Here’s our 2014 winners' story:
Game Attended: Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers, Sept.
4, 2014 (Seahawks won 36-16.)
Location: CenturyLink Field, Seattle
Ethel and Bob attended the annual HOME TEAM HUDDLE party hosted by
the Alpha Sunday School Class from Germantown United Methodist Church. GUMC and
the Alpha Class been involved with Memphis Habitat, raising funds and
volunteering, for almost 30 years, and the Alpha Class has long been hosting
annual HUDDLES for its members. The event is always popular. In fact, the Alpha
Class has been the top fundraising party in the past, and other class members have
actually won the grand prize in previous years!
About her reaction when learning she’d won the grand prize, Ethel
said, “I was totally shocked and thrilled when learning my name had been drawn
for the trip. I remember how much fun another couple from our class had a few
years prior when their names were drawn!”
Bob and Ethel narrowed the games down to a Green Bay Packers game.
“We’d been fans for years as my brother used to live in Green Bay!” Ethel said.
They wanted to go somewhere they’d never been, and when they learned the Seahawks
would host the Packers for their home opener, they felt it would be the
perfect time of year to head to Seattle. “The weather was absolutely fabulous
the four days we were there!”
Friends of the Matthews family – two huge Packer fans – decided to
book their own trip to coincide with Bob and Ethel’s and joined them. They were
all amazed at how loud Seattle’s fans could be! “At the game, we were surrounded by the ‘12th man on the field’ and
it WAS loud! There were a few other Packers fans in front of us to commiserate
with! But, despite the abysmal play of the Packers, it was lots of fun to see
CenturyLink Field and experience an NFL game.”
While in Seattle, Ethel said they did lots of walking and took in
many of the sights. “We made use of the Sounder Train to CenturyLink Field from
downtown and rode the Monorail system to the Chihuly Glass Museum and Space
Needle. We also saw ‘A Chorus Line’ at the 5th Avenue Theater, a terrific
professional production by artists of the Northwest. The last day we had a boat
tour from Union Lake, past the home used in ‘Sleepless in Seattle,’ through
the Ballard Lock into Puget Sound and then back to the pier. Of course, we
also shopped Pike Place Market.”
