AutoZone, Memphis Habitat Bring Together Military, First Responders for Heroes Build

AutoZoners, local heroes work on two homes in Medical District

Memphis, Tenn. Nov. 16, 2018 – AutoZone, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis and local heroes came together to help finish two homes during the annual Heroes Build Day event on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, in the Medical District.

Roughly two dozen volunteers spent the morning painting the interiors of the new Habitat homes on Mosby Avenue. Members of the U.S. Navy and volunteers from AutoZone participated in the event, which is hosted by AutoZone and provides the opportunity for first responders and active duty, reserve and retired members of the military community to volunteer on a Habitat build site.

“We are so proud to have partners like AutoZone who make it possible for members of our military and first responder communities to help local families build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter,” said Dwayne Spencer, President & CEO of Memphis Habitat. “Through shelter, we empower, and we are proud to work alongside our future homebuyers and these heroes to help make decent and affordable homebuying opportunities available for more local families.”

Memphis Habitat first launched Heroes Build Day in 2013. AutoZone has served as the event sponsor since 2015.

“AutoZone is both honored and humbled to present the 2018 Heroes Build,” said Tracy Houston, Manager Communications, Customer Satisfaction at AutoZone. “We are honored to stand alongside the men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces and first responder communities – many who are current AutoZoners -  to build homes in our community where we live work, and play.
