Heroes Build 2019 presented by AutoZone

AutoZone and Memphis Habitat Bring Together Military, First Responders for Heroes Build
AutoZoners and local heroes build homes in Castalia Heights

Memphis, Tenn. Nov. 8, 2019 – AutoZone, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis, active-duty, reserve and veteran members of the military, first responders and other volunteers helped build homes during the annual Heroes Build Day event on Friday, Nov. 8 in the Castalia Heights neighborhood.

Roughly 40 volunteers spent the morning installing siding on the outside and painting the interiors on the new Habitat homes in Castalia Heights. Various members of local military, first-responders and volunteers from AutoZone participated in the event, which is sponsored by AutoZone and provides the opportunity for first responders and active duty, reserve and retired members of the military community to volunteer on a Habitat build site.

“We are so proud to have longtime partners like AutoZone who make it possible for members of our military and first responder communities to volunteer with future Habitat homebuyers as they work toward buying their Habitat homes,” said Dwayne Spencer, president & CEO of Memphis Habitat. “Through shelter, we empower, and we are proud to work alongside AutoZone and these heroes to make decent and affordable homebuying opportunities available for more people in the Memphis area.”

Memphis Habitat first launched Heroes Build Day in 2013 to observe Patriot Day, the annual National Day of Service and Remembrance held in memory of those lost due to the Sept. 11 attacks. AutoZone has sponsored the event since 2015. In 2017, AutoZone and Habitat chose to move the event closer to Veterans Day.

“AutoZone is both honored and humbled to present the 2019 Heroes Build,” said David McKinney, Vice President, Government and Community Relations, Customer Satisfaction at AutoZone. “We are honored to stand alongside the men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces and first responder communities – many who are current AutoZoners - to build homes in our community where we live work, and play.”
