Stories: Meet Our Families

Through shelter, we empower. Meet some of the families who have partnered with Habitat to build or improve the places they call home.

Maria's Story

Every mother needs to know her children have a stable place to call home.

“Everything started from this house,” – Maria, a Memphis Habitat homeowner since 2001

Maria wanted to buy a home for her children. She wanted them to know they wouldn’t have to move again. She wanted to feel secure, so her kids would feel secure. After trying to buy a home through traditional programs, Maria applied to buy a Habitat home in 2001 and was approved.

Watch Maria's family's story below:

Habitat's work doesn't end when construction ends. Habitat for Humanity's real impact begins after a family moves in. Since 1983, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis has helped first-time homebuyers like Maria build better lives for themselves and their families. Children have grown up in stable homes without worrying about changing schools throughout the year. And parents have been proud of the strong foundation they have provided for their children. You can help bring that same sense of strength, stability and independence to more local families.

Everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live. Every donation helps. Your gift can help a local family help themselves.
