Memphis Habitat Celebrates New Homebuyers, Invites Future Buyers to Explore Affordable Homeownership Opportunities
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (July 6, 2026) — Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis recently gathered with sponsors, donors, board members, and volunteers to celebrate 14 new Habitat homebuyers during a “Homebuyer Celebration” event on Saturday, June 13.
The event commemorated the building of homes and the completion of the homebuyers’ journey through Memphis Habitat’s mortgage program. Like all Memphis Habitat homebuyers, the families celebrated at the event purchased their homes with an affordable mortgage, which features no added interest.
“Homebuyer celebrations like this one are among the most meaningful moments we experience at Memphis Habitat. Buying a first home is a life-changing milestone, and we are proud to celebrate with these homebuyers,” said Dwayne Spencer, President & CEO at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis. “Their success also reminds us why this work matters. Too many local families are still looking for an affordable opportunity to buy a home, and Memphis Habitat remains committed to helping more people achieve that goal. Together, we can build a 901 where more of our neighbors have affordable places to call home.”
Memphis Habitat’s program offers homebuying opportunities to aspiring local homebuyers who earn at or below 80% area median income. All Memphis Habitat buyers must meet mortgage program qualifications, attend 14 weeks of homebuyer education, save an emergency fund, contribute toward their down payment, and pay a monthly note on the 30-year mortgage.
Speaking during the ceremony, Liz Miller, Memphis Habitat’s Associate Director of Mortgage Loans, encouraged the crowd to spread the word about Habitat’s mortgage program.
“Word of mouth remains our best referral source,” Miller said. “Every day our team is working to make sure the community knows Habitat offers a homebuying opportunity – an affordable mortgage without added interest – for those who qualify. Our current homebuyers are our best ambassadors!”
Miller also shared that Memphis Habitat hosts homebuyer information sessions twice each month. Each hourlong session provides attendees with an overview of program requirements. Attendees can pick up an application at the end of the sessions.
