Become a Volunteer Leader

At Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis, volunteer leadership plays a critical role in our mission. As a Volunteer Leader, you’ll help guide and support other volunteers while contributing to the construction of homes that will change lives. Whether you’re a Blue Hat or a Green Hat, your leadership helps us build strong, stable communities.

Habitat Green Hats Build Site Leaders

Green Hats: Build Site Leaders

Green Hats are our Build Site Leaders, the key volunteers who help direct the flow of work on the construction site. If you're ready to take on more responsibility and guide fellow volunteers, this is a great way to have a direct impact on building affordable homes.

What Green Hats Do:

  • Lead teams of volunteers during construction tasks such as framing, building cabinets, and painting.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed and provide necessary equipment and instructions.
  • Provide direction and guidance to new and returning volunteers, answering questions and helping to build confidence on the site.
  • Help ensure that each volunteer feels supported, valued, and has a rewarding experience.
  • Assist Habitat staff and contractors with overseeing the daily construction schedule and project goals.
Habitat Blue Hats Re Store Volunteer Leaders

Blue Hats: ReStore Volunteer Leaders

Blue Hats are Volunteer Leaders at our ReStore, where we sell donated furniture, appliances, and building materials to fund Habitat’s mission. As a Blue Hat, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring that the ReStore runs smoothly, helping manage operations, and guiding volunteers who work on the sales floor and with donations.

What Blue Hats Do:

  • Lead and assist volunteers in the ReStore, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
  • Help organize and sort donations, ensuring that items are priced, displayed, and ready for sale.
  • Ensure the safety of volunteers and customers by maintaining a clean and organized store.
  • Provide direction to volunteers, guiding them through their tasks, answering questions, and making sure they’re having a great experience.
  • Support ReStore staff with inventory, customer service, and special projects.
