Memphis Habitat Advocates for Affordable Homes in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – CEO Dwayne Spencer; Memphis Habitat board member and Shelby County Commissioner, David Bradford; and Associate Director of Advocacy and Public Policy Zachary Amos joined Habitat for Humanity leaders from across the country for Habitat on the Hill in Washington, D.C.
This annual advocacy conference came at a critical moment. With ongoing shifts in the federal landscape, funding priorities and legislative opportunities remain uncertain. But one thing is clear: the need for affordable housing has never been more urgent.
At Habitat on the Hill, Memphis Habitat had the opportunity to elevate our voice and share local insights with national impact. Dwayne Spencer participated as a panelist, emphasizing how advocacy strengthens local Habitat affiliates and drives tangible, measurable change in the communities we serve.
We held productive conversations with U.S. Representatives Steve Cohen and David Kustoff, and with staff members from the offices of Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty. Their engagement reaffirms that affordable homeownership is not a partisan issue; it’s a community issue that affects all of us across Tennessee and the nation.
In the face of shifting policies and uncertain funding, our mission remains unwavering: to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities, and hope. Not from the left. Not from the right. But from the front lines of need, where our work matters most.
Thank you for standing with us. Advocacy is more than policy – it's about people. Together, we can work to give everyone an equal chance to lead self-sufficient, more prosperous lives.
