Memphis Habitat Honors President Jimmy Carter’s Contributions to Habitat for Humanity
MEMPHIS, TN - Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis joined Habitat organizations around the world in building framed memorial walls and doors to honor former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Each door symbolized how his nearly four decades of service opened doors to brighter futures for thousands of Habitat homeowners.
“Memphis Habitat was honored to serve as host of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in 2016. The impact of that weeklong project will be felt here in Memphis for generations,” said Dwayne Spencer, president & CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis. “We encouraged the community to visit the library to sign the doors and help us honor President Carter’s life of service.”
The memorial-framed walls and doors were on display at the Benjamin L. Hooks Library for an entire week. The public was invited to pay tribute by signing the memorial with their names and personal messages.
Our staff, board members, Memphis Habitat supporters, and local media came together to honor President Jimmy Carter’s life and global legacy, highlighting his impact here in Memphis.
